A healthy leisure activity, ideal both for physical and mental well-being and the chance to get to know and play a sport like handball accompanies the personal growth of the youngster, who learns the importance of team play, respecting the rules and above all, respecting the adversary, the sporting rival but never the “enemy” to shoot down. There are about ninety Albatro younge-sters, divided into three different categories. About fifty of them born between 2000 and 2004 represent the driving force of no fewer than five under-12 teams, who will be up against other young teams of the province of Siracusa (and themselves). At the end of the tournament, the best of these five teams will be selected for the national tournament which will be held next summer in Misano Adriatica. Twenty youngsters from Siracusa born between 1999 and 2000 are in the under-14 category, and the same number born between 1996 and 1998 make up the under 16 category. These two formations take part in their respective categories in the Sicilian regional tournaments and, if they win the title, they will go on to the national level of the tournament. Lastly, it is important to underline that Albatro has started up an experimental project for girls: a group of girls from Siracusa under 12 are enjoying the pleasure of the game and it is hoped that a team can be formed soon, thus stimulating other local handball clubs to open their doors to sports-loving girls as well as boys.
