During the ceremony, the new Knights received the appointment from the Head of State, Giorgio Napolitano, flanked by 25 Alfieri of Labour, or bright students who have excelled in secondary school education for merit and commitment. The honour of “Cavaliere del Lavoro” is attributed to men and women who have given a significant contribution to the world of business, economics and labour in terms of development, prosperity and innovation. The Cavalieri are the elite of entrepreneurship in the Country and are called on to fulfill their commitment at service for their Country, especially in the ethical and social areas since the human capital ia at the basis of the wealth of a firm. This event has taken place in an economically complicated moment, making the issue that the business system is called on to respond with rigour, spirit of service and commitment. The prestige of this award does not end with its attainment, but must be backed up by the commitment to continuous growth.
